Delta Junction to Fairbanks to Talkeetna

After enjoying a yummy breakfast at The Garden B & B we headed off to Fairbanks.  But we had to make a stop at the Knotty Shop at the recommendation of one of the guest at the B & B and TripAdvisor If you have never used this website, you must try it out.  I used it heavily as we planned this trip and it was usually right on,

 This shop is full of items that made the knots on tree's.  There is jewelry, cups, plates and numerous other things.    It was unique and well worth a stop

 After enjoying this stop we headed on to Fairbanks, Alaska but not before we stopped at Santa Clause village.  Mailed a card to the kids.

Fairbanks is one of the larger cities in Alaska and looks like any other good size city.  I am not sure what I expected but it was much more of a big city than I had though.  We drove around alittle and then headed onto viewing station for the Alaskan Pipeline.  Really cool and pipe much bigger than I thought,

 We headed on to Talkeetna where we would be staying for the evening.  We had been here on our first trip to Alaska on a cruise but had not really looked around in the city.  Very neat little town and is know as the starting place for those climb on Mt, McKinley.  Unfortuately it was cloudy and a bit raining so we were not able to see the mountain.  Our first trip here we were fortunately to view her clearly.  We stayed at Denali Fireside.  There were about 12 small cabins with fireplaces.

 Here are a few examples of the older building in the town of Talkeetna that Dave took on a walk into town.

 We awoke to a light rain that followed us most of the morning as we headed for Kenai Pennisula.  On our way out of town we stopped at Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe  Yum.  We took a Birch Syrup cookie with us.  It made for a wonderful mid morning snack.
