This by far has been the most picturesque port. The sail in down the fjord was absolutely the most beautiful and serene part of this journey. We have been here before but I do not remember this part of the trip. Maybe it was at a different time of day. This time we entered the fjord about 9:30 and docked about 11:30. What a beautiful two hours we spend sailing in.
Seydisfjordur is truly the most mountainous terrain we have seen. Its origins date back to the Vikings. It was settled by Norwegian fishermen and merchants in 1848. It hosted the first whaling station in 1906 they established telegraph cables linking Iceland to Europe that same time period brought electricity to the island via a dam. It is home to colorful wooden homes with picturesque mountain slopes and a beautiful waterfall. The town recovered from a huge landslide in 2016 where several homes were lost.
We don’t leave here to 10:30 this evening we have sunlight until 11:30pm. Sun rises again at 2:20am. The views sailing out are just as beautiful
