Narvik is situated on the innermost shores of Ofotfjorden fjord within the Arctic Circle. The town has dramatic backdrops and is circled by mountains on all sides. Glaciers spill right in to the water here. Its livelihood is based on iron ore and it’s one of the few ice free ports in this are due to the southern currents. A rail link was built directly the water's edge to ship the iron ore and is still in operation today, The history of this port goes way back to the Vikings and was strategically valuable in the early years of WW II.
