Well we finally made it to Iceland. Arrived in Isafordur about 9. Beautiful transit into the port. The celebrity Apex was already in port along with a National Geographic explorer ship. It’s an another cold and cloudy day. We watched us come in and dock. Today is an emigration day and we came in early to give everyone a chance to go through the process before they depart the ship.
Isafordur is a town in the east coast of Iceland about 300+ miles from Reykjavik. It was founded in the 1600. It is a fishing village and is home to the earliest manned settlement(Bolungarvik) in this area of Iceland. About 1713 according to my research.it also has the largest concentration of timber frame homes.
We walked, I rode the scooter into town. Quite a ways, so glad I had the scooter. Quaint little town. Not much but a few shops and a couple of hotels. This was by far the coldest day we had in Iceland.
The food has been way too good and the cooler weather has been a treat. It even felt good to be a bit chilly on our trip into town. We will visit this port again in a few days but imagine we will stay on board. This cruise is actually two cruises put together.
